Rory McIlroy Receives PGA of America Apology After Ryder Cup *****

Rory McIlroy PGA of America apology — Golf star Rory McIlroy has revealed that he and his wife Erica received a “lovely” message of apology from PGA of America CEO Derek Sprague following the ***** they endured from US fans at last year’s Ryder Cup.

Rory McIlroy ‘A Lovely Letter’ After Ryder Cup *****

Rory McIlroy, who helped Team Europe secure a 15-13 victory over the United States at Bethpage, confirmed the apology ahead of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. “I got a lovely email from Derek Sprague apologising,” McIlroy told BBC Sport. “Erica worked with Derek at the PGA of America back in the day so we know him and his wife quite well. He couldn’t have been more gracious or apologetic, and he wrote us a lovely letter, which we really appreciated.”

Erica McIlroy was struck by a tossed beer can during Saturday’s play in New York, while Rory was repeatedly targeted by rowdy fans.

‘It Galvanised Us’ – Rory McIlroy Reflects on the *****

The Masters champion said he took the heckling as “a compliment” and that it strengthened the European side. “It was a tough week, but that made us better as a team. It galvanised us and put our arms around each other,” he said.

Paired with Shane Lowry in the crucial Friday and Saturday sessions, McIlroy praised his partner’s composure under pressure: “He was like the big brother I never had out there. He played incredible golf to keep us in it, and him holing that putt was just the perfect end.”

A Season to Remember

McIlroy has been keen to ensure that the fan ***** does not overshadow Europe’s brilliance in foursomes and fourball play. The 36-year-old looks back on what he calls “the season of my life,” capturing the Masters to complete his career Grand Slam, alongside wins at the Players Championship, Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and Irish Open.

Chasing Race to Dubai Glory

Now back in the Middle East, McIlroy is aiming for victory at both the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, where he leads the Race to Dubai standings by just under 500 points ahead of England’s Marco Penge.

“I remember trying to win my first Race to Dubai in 2009 against Lee Westwood,” McIlroy said. “I’m sure Marco feels exactly the same hunger.”

Reflecting on his year, McIlroy added: “In my wildest dreams, I didn’t imagine a season like this. It’s been an amazing 10 months.”
