Rohit Sharma Guides Team India Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

Rohit Sharma is set to mentor the Indian T20 squad ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, despite having retired from the shortest format. The former captain, who has played in all nine editions of the T20 World Cup, aims to share his experience and insights with the next generation of Indian cricketers to ensure the team is fully prepared for the upcoming tournament.

Rohit Sharma’s Mentorship Role

Rohit Sharma emphasized that he will engage with several players from India’s T20 squad during the upcoming ODI series against South Africa. “I keep meeting all these guys; I’m still playing. I’m going to go to Ranchi and meet some of these guys there who are going to be part of the T20 setup,” he said.

Even though he has stepped away from T20 cricket, Rohit remains deeply involved in team discussions, helping players refine their strategies and mental approach to high-pressure matches.

Sharing Wisdom From a 15-Year Career

The white-ball cricket legend highlighted the importance of understanding players’ mindsets and facilitating open conversations. “There’s always a conversation that happens between the players, and I am somebody who likes to talk, discuss, and get into their mindset a little bit and understand what they are thinking,” Rohit noted during a panel discussion in Mumbai alongside T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav and Women’s World Cup-winning skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.

Rohit’s experience as the only player to hit three double hundreds in ODI cricket positions him as a valuable advisor for the Indian T20 side. His insights aim to balance tactical guidance with motivational support.

Always Available for Advice

Rohit Sharma stressed that he is always available to offer advice or provide solutions whenever approached by the players. “I have always been that person who’s there to provide advice if there is one to be given or hear them out and see if there is a solution to be found for that,” he said.

His approachable and mentorship-oriented style ensures that even younger players feel confident seeking guidance from one of India’s most accomplished white-ball cricketers.

Preparing for Final T20 World Cup Strategy

While Rohit plans to guide the players, he believes the team is already in strong form. “These guys are having a great run of late. I don’t think there’s much that needs to be changed,” he added. He highlighted that the final preparations, including finalizing the playing XI and squad of 15, will take place during the series against New Zealand, giving players a chance to consolidate strategies ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma’s Enduring Influence

As the ICC Brand Ambassador for the 2026 T20 World Cup co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma’s involvement extends beyond mentoring. His presence reflects his ongoing influence on Indian cricket, bridging past achievements with the future ambitions of the national team.

With Rohit’s guidance, the Indian T20 side is expected to combine experience, skill, and strategic insight to defend their title successfully and aim for another World Cup triumph on home soil.
