Asia Cup 2025: When Will India Finally Receive the Trophy?

The Asia Cup 2025 trophy, which should have been presented to the Indian team on September 28 in Dubai, remains locked away in controversy — and quite literally, in a Dubai office.

Multiple reports initially claimed that ACC (Asian Cricket Council) President Mohsin Naqvi took the trophy to Pakistan, allegedly insisting that Team India would only be allowed to receive it directly from him. However, while that version isn’t fully accurate, the part about Naqvi’s insistence appears to be true, as Cricbuzz first reported on September 29.

According to recent updates, the Asia Cup 2025 silverware was removed from the Dubai International Stadium after India’s refusal to accept it from Naqvi and is now being held securely in the ACC headquarters, located inside the ICC Academy complex in Dubai. Sources indicate that Naqvi has instructed ACC staff not to release the trophy without his personal approval.

The issue is now expected to be discussed at the ACC Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Dubai on September 30, where representatives of the five Test-playing ACC nations — India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan — are set to deliberate on a resolution. Their next formal discussion is scheduled for early November (November 4–7), aligning with the ICC’s quarterly meetings in Dubai.

However, uncertainty looms over whether Naqvi will attend in person, given that he skipped the ICC Annual Conference in July. If he sends a representative again, the standoff may continue, leaving the trophy locked in the ACC office even longer.

The BCCI has yet to issue a formal response but hinted that it will take the necessary steps to ensure that Team India rightfully receives the trophy it earned by defeating Pakistan in the Asia Cup final. A PCB spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
