Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Raze Delhi Capitals for 75 as RCB Seal Nine-Wicket Win in IPL 2026

A Night Delhi Would Rather Forget

Royal Challengers Bengaluru turned in one of the most clinical performances of the IPL 2026 season on Monday night, bowling Delhi Capitals out for a paltry 75 runs before cruising to victory in just 6.3 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The nine-wicket win sent a sharp message to the rest of the field: the defending champions are building serious momentum at the right time of the tournament.

The Powerplay Collapse That Decided the Match

Delhi were in deep trouble almost from the first ball. Josh Hazlewood removed KL Rahul and Sameer Rizvi off successive deliveries in the second over, and at the other end, Bhuvneshwar Kumar had already bowled debutant Sahil Parakh for a golden duck in the opening over. By the time the fourth over ended, Delhi sat at a barely believable 8 for 6. A dust storm briefly halted play but offered no respite for a batting line-up that had simply been blown away. Hazlewood finished with 4 for 12 and Bhuvneshwar returned 3 for 5, a combined effort that will be studied in bowling coaching sessions for years to come.

Only Abishek Porel Offered Resistance

With the innings in ruins, Abishek Porel arrived as an impact substitute and top-scored with 30 off 33 balls, briefly giving Delhi something to show for their evening. David Miller chipped in with 19 and Kyle Jamieson added 12 lower down the order. Without those three, Delhi would have fallen well below their previous lowest total of 66, set back in 2017. Instead, they limped to 75 all out in 13.3 overs, their third-lowest total in IPL history and the lowest score recorded in IPL 2026 so far.

RCB Chase Down Target in Under Seven Overs

The reply was straightforward from the first ball. Jacob Bethell glanced Dushmantha Chameera for four off the opening delivery before falling for 20, and from there Devdutt Padikkal (34 not out) and Virat Kohli (23 not out) calmly knocked off the remaining runs. Kohli reached a significant personal milestone during the chase that is covered in a separate report. RCB reached 77 for 1 in 6.3 overs, finishing the contest ahead of any reasonable schedule.

What This Result Means in the IPL 2026 Context

RCB now sit second in the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points from eight matches. Delhi, who had posted a jaw-dropping 264 against Punjab Kings just two days earlier before losing, slipped to seventh with six points. The contrast between those two performances from the same batting line-up is startling, but that is T20 cricket. A single dominant bowling effort in the powerplay can reshape a day entirely. RCB captain Rajat Patidar said after the match that he was surprised himself by how completely the game unfolded, and gave full credit to Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar for executing a demanding game plan on a pitch that had produced 197 on average across recent seasons.

Bhuvneshwar and Hazlewood: A Veteran Pairing Finding Its Peak

What made the bowling performance particularly impressive was the pace and precision of both seamers on a surface that had previously produced 210 and 205 in this campaign. Hazlewood spoke after the game about conditions offering early movement when the ball was hard, and about working alongside Bhuvneshwar to exploit that window with full aggression. Together, they shared seven wickets in a powerplay that felt more like a Test match than a Twenty20 game. Bhuvneshwar now holds the Purple Cap with 14 wickets in IPL 2026, a figure that would have seemed unlikely at the start of the season for a bowler in the later years of his career. Hazlewood was named Player of the Match.

A Warning to the Rest of the Table

Delhi captain Axar Patel was honest in his post-match comments, saying he could not explain the collapse. His team has shown across the season that they are capable of extraordinary batting performances, but Monday was a reminder that T20 cricket carries no guarantees. For RCB, this was the kind of complete, two-sided effort that title-winning campaigns are built on, and the timing could not have been better.
