India vs Australia: Dinesh Karthik Backs Rohit Sharma To Play 2027 World Cup If ‘He Puts His Heart And Mind To It’

Former India captain Rohit Sharma, now 38, finds himself in the twilight phase of his illustrious international career. Having stepped down from captaincy in all formats, questions remain about how long he will continue representing India — especially with the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup on the horizon.

Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik, however, believes that Rohit still has what it takes to play a pivotal role in India’s 2027 campaign, provided he maintains his motivation and fitness.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Karthik said:

“Ever since losing the 2023 World Cup final, Rohit’s dream was to lead India to a World Cup title — which he finally achieved in 2024 in the Caribbean. That fire still burns inside him, and I believe he wants to win the 50-over World Cup too.”

Karthik highlighted Rohit’s consistency since the 2023 World Cup, noting that he has scored over 1,000 runs at an average of 48, maintaining an impressive strike rate.

“Rohit the batter is vital for India. If he puts his heart and mind to it, I have no doubt he’ll be there in 2027,” Karthik added.

He further praised Rohit’s fearless approach at the top of the order:

“When Rohit is in form, he’s pure poetry in motion. His attacking intent in the Powerplay sets the tone for the innings and gives India a strong foundation.”

Karthik also commended Rohit’s maturity and selflessness in recent years:

“He’s evolved beautifully. It’s not about milestones anymore — it’s about setting the tone and leading by example. Even in the World Cup final, his aggressive start showed how important he is to Indian cricket.”

As Rohit Sharma gears up for the India vs Australia ODI series, fans and analysts alike are eager to see if the veteran opener can continue his fine form and extend his international journey toward 2027.
