The Final Four Are Officially Confirmed
After 70 league-stage matches filled with dramatic finishes, stunning performances, and playoff twists, the IPL 2026 playoffs are finally set. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals have secured the four qualification spots and will now battle for the title in the final phase of the tournament.
Some of the biggest names in IPL history, including Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders, have failed to survive the league stage. Now the focus shifts entirely to the four remaining contenders and the road to the final in Ahmedabad.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru Finish on Top
Royal Challengers Bengaluru enter the playoffs as the number one side after a brilliant league campaign. The defending champions finished with 18 points from 14 matches and secured top spot thanks to a superior net run rate of +0.783.
RCB have been the most consistent team throughout the season, winning 9 matches and rarely losing momentum for long periods. Their batting unit has delivered regularly, while their bowling attack has consistently handled pressure situations.
Finishing first gives Bengaluru a major advantage heading into the playoffs. They now get two opportunities to reach the final and enter Qualifier 1 carrying both confidence and momentum.
As defending champions, however, expectations around the squad will now rise significantly. Every remaining match becomes a knockout-level contest.
Gujarat Titans Look Built for Big Matches
Gujarat Titans finished second on the table with 18 points and a net run rate of +0.695, narrowly missing top spot behind RCB.
GT arguably possess the strongest bowling attack left in the competition. Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, and Mohammed Siraj have formed a dangerous combination capable of controlling games in any conditions.
Their batting lineup has also peaked at the perfect time. Captain Shubman Gill has led from the front, while Jos Buttler’s aggressive strokeplay has given Gujarat another match-winning dimension at the top of the order.
GT will now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1, where the winner will directly secure a place in the IPL 2026 final.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Bring Fearless Firepower
Sunrisers Hyderabad finished third after another impressive season built around fearless batting and relentless attacking cricket.
SRH ended the league stage with 18 points and a net run rate of +0.524. Their campaign included a stunning five-match winning streak that transformed them into serious title contenders midway through the season.
The batting trio of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen has made Hyderabad one of the most dangerous teams in the tournament. On their day, they can overwhelm bowling attacks within a few overs and completely dominate matches.
Sunrisers will now meet Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator on May 27 in New Chandigarh, where one defeat ends the season immediately.
Rajasthan Royals Sneak Into the Playoffs
No team faced more pressure on the final day than Rajasthan Royals.
RR entered their last league match knowing they had to defeat Mumbai Indians to stay alive. They delivered under pressure with a commanding 30-run win, reaching 16 points and securing the final playoff position.
The qualification was powered by Jofra Archer’s outstanding all-round performance, which included crucial late runs and a match-winning spell with the ball.
Rajasthan’s season has been filled with both brilliance and inconsistency. At times they looked like title favorites, while at other moments they struggled badly for rhythm. Despite the uneven campaign, they managed to survive the playoff race and now enter the knockout stage with renewed belief.
Big Names Crash Out of IPL 2026
While four teams celebrate qualification, several major franchises are left disappointed.
Punjab Kings narrowly missed out after finishing fifth with 15 points despite producing a strong second half of the season. Kolkata Knight Riders, champions in 2024, also failed to make the playoffs after an inconsistent campaign.
Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants were eliminated earlier in the season, while Chennai Super Kings suffered another painful exit despite their history of dominance in the tournament.
For several franchises, IPL 2026 will now become a season of missed opportunities and difficult questions heading into the next year.
The Road to Ahmedabad Begins
The playoff stage officially begins with Qualifier 1 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans in Dharamsala on May 26.
The Eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals follows on May 27 in New Chandigarh. The winner of that match will advance to Qualifier 2 on May 29 for one final shot at reaching the title clash.
The IPL 2026 final will then take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 31.
After months of league-stage cricket, the tournament now enters the stage where legends are created, pressure reaches its peak, and only one team will lift the trophy.
