KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav Crush KKR as DC End Season With 40-Run Win

Delhi Capitals Finish Their Campaign With Authority

Delhi Capitals closed out their IPL 2026 campaign with a commanding 40-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. While the playoffs remained out of reach, DC ensured they finished the season with pride by registering their third consecutive win. For KKR, however, the defeat officially ended any lingering hopes of sneaking into the top four.

The Capitals looked sharper, more aggressive, and far more composed throughout the contest, dominating both with the bat and ball in front of a disappointed Kolkata crowd.

KL Rahul Delivers a Blistering Start

The foundation of Delhi’s victory came from KL Rahul, who produced one of his cleanest innings of the season. Opening the batting after KKR opted to bowl first, Rahul attacked immediately and never allowed the bowlers to settle.

He smashed 60 runs from just 30 deliveries, striking 5 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 200. Rahul’s aggressive intent completely changed the tempo of the innings and put KKR under pressure inside the powerplay itself.

Every loose ball disappeared to the boundary, and his fearless strokeplay gave Delhi the perfect platform for a massive total. By the time Rahul departed, DC had already taken control of the game.

Axar Patel and Middle Order Keep Momentum Alive

After Rahul’s explosive knock, Delhi Capitals needed composure in the middle overs, and captain Axar Patel delivered exactly that. Axar played a smart innings of 39 off 25 balls, rotating strike efficiently while punishing boundary opportunities whenever KKR lost discipline.

His partnership with David Miller helped maintain the run rate through the crucial middle phase. Miller added a quick 28, using his experience to attack the shorter side of the ground and keep the pressure firmly on Kolkata.

Ashutosh Sharma then provided the finishing touch with a lively unbeaten cameo in the death overs, helping Delhi Capitals cross the 200-run mark. DC eventually posted an imposing 203 for 5, a score that always looked challenging on a surface beginning to assist slower bowlers.

Rahane Keeps KKR Alive Early in the Chase

Kolkata Knight Riders began the chase positively despite losing an early wicket. Ajinkya Rahane held the innings together beautifully and looked determined to keep KKR’s playoff hopes alive.

Rahane played with excellent control, scoring 63 runs from 39 balls while mixing timing with intelligent placement. At 125 for 2 in the 12th over, KKR still appeared very much in the contest.

The Eden Gardens crowd sensed momentum shifting toward the home side as Rahane started accelerating against both pace and spin. Delhi needed a breakthrough quickly, and that moment arrived through a dramatic tactical move.

Kuldeep Yadav Turns the Match Around

Delhi Capitals introduced Kuldeep Yadav as an Impact Player, and within moments the game completely changed.

Returning to Eden Gardens a venue where he spent several years as a KKR player Kuldeep delivered a devastating spell of wrist spin. He dismissed Rahane and Rinku Singh in consecutive deliveries, instantly triggering panic in the Kolkata middle order.

The double strike completely altered the chase. KKR lost momentum, wickets began falling regularly, and the required rate climbed rapidly.

Kuldeep finished with outstanding figures of 3 for 29 in his four overs, once again proving why he remains one of the most dangerous middle-over bowlers in T20 cricket.

Delhi Pace Attack Finishes the Job

While Kuldeep broke the backbone of the chase, Delhi’s fast bowlers ensured there would be no recovery.

Lungi Ngidi produced an excellent spell, picking up 3 for 27 with disciplined lengths and sharp variations. Mitchell Starc then cleaned up the lower order with 2 for 26 as KKR collapsed from a promising position to 163 all out in just 18.4 overs.

The collapse highlighted the inconsistency that troubled Kolkata throughout the season. What initially looked like a controlled chase suddenly became another frustrating batting failure under pressure.

KKR Eliminated as DC End With Momentum

The result confirms Delhi Capitals finish sixth on the table with 14 points. Although they missed the playoffs, ending the season with three straight victories gives them plenty of positives heading into the future.

For Kolkata Knight Riders, the defeat officially ends their campaign in seventh place. The 2024 champions entered the season with high expectations but failed to find consistency at key moments.

Instead of a playoff celebration at Eden Gardens, the home fans witnessed a dominant all-round performance from Delhi Capitals powered by KL Rahul’s explosive batting and Kuldeep Yadav’s match-winning spell.
