RR vs DC IPL 2026 Match 43 Preview: Starc Returns Tonight

Rajasthan Royals Host Delhi Capitals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium

Tonight’s IPL 2026 fixture brings Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals together at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur for Match 43 of the season. The match begins at 7:30 PM IST, and the contrast between the two sides could not be more stark given their respective form and league positions heading into this game.

Rajasthan Royals are in third place with 12 points and six wins from nine games. Their confidence is high after a historic chase in their previous match, where they overhauled Punjab Kings’ total of 223 with six wickets to spare, ending PBKS’s unbeaten run in the competition. The Royals have been one of the more consistent teams this season and see tonight as an opportunity to firm up their playoff standing.

Delhi in Crisis Mode as Three-Match Slide Continues

Delhi Capitals, by contrast, are in serious trouble. They sit seventh with just three wins from eight games and a net run rate of minus 1.060. Their last match against RCB was a disaster, as the entire batting lineup crumbled to just 75 all out before losing by nine wickets. It was one of the worst batting performances of the season by any team, and the Capitals are well aware that their path to the playoffs has become extremely narrow.

The matchup at Jaipur has some fascinating sub-contests. The surface at Sawai Mansingh has produced high scores this season, with SRH chasing 229 here earlier in the tournament. The first innings average this season sits around 180 to 195, suggesting both teams will have to execute their plans with precision to come out on top.

Mitchell Starc Set to Make His 2026 IPL Debut

The most significant piece of news for Delhi heading into this match is the availability of Mitchell Starc. The Australian left-arm quick has been cleared to play from May 1 after recovering from a shoulder injury. He has not played competitive cricket since January, but the Capitals have confirmed he has been bowling in the nets and is ready to go. His likely inclusion means either Kyle Jamieson or Dushmantha Chameera will make way.

Starc’s presence is massive for DC given that they have managed just seven powerplay wickets all season, the joint-fewest in the competition. Against an RR opening partnership of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who are among the most destructive openers in the tournament, DC desperately need a threat at the top. Suryavanshi alone has over 400 runs this season and has been in breathtaking form.

Jofra Archer’s Powerplay Threat for Rajasthan Royals

On the RR side, Jofra Archer remains the key weapon. He has taken 14 wickets in the powerplay this season and has been one of the most dangerous bowlers in the competition. On four separate occasions, he has struck inside the first over of his spell, including three times off the very first ball. If Archer can rattle DC’s top order early, RR will be in control of the game regardless of what target they set or need to chase.

Riyan Parag has had some form concerns with the bat personally this season, but his captaincy has been astute and the team around him has performed well. Ravindra Jadeja adds class in both departments, while the left-right combination of opening options gives RR a balanced look at the top.

RR Hold the Advantage on Paper and at Home

Historically, this fixture stands at 15 wins each from 30 meetings, making it one of the most evenly matched rivalries in the league. However, the current form gap between the two sides is as wide as it has been in a long time. RR carry a net run rate of plus 0.617 compared to DC’s minus 1.060, a difference that illustrates just how far apart these teams are right now.

Chasers have historically won around 64 percent of matches at Jaipur, so winning the toss and fielding first will likely be the preference for both captains. With dew being minimal in the dry Rajasthan heat, defending totals is more viable here than at some other IPL venues. Expect a fiercely contested match where both sides need to win for very different reasons.
