Shantha Rangaswamy Elected ICA President; Venkat Sundaram Named Secretary in Historic Indian Cricketers’ Association Election

Shantha Rangaswamy elected ICA president marks a historic milestone for Indian cricket, as the former India women’s captain becomes the first female head of the Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA). This election signifies a bold move toward gender-inclusive leadership in the country’s cricket administration.

Alongside Rangaswamy, former Delhi opener Venkat Sundaram has been appointed as the ICA’s new Secretary, having earlier served as President since December 2024 following the passing of Aunshuman Gaekwad. Their appointments symbolize continuity, experience, and progressive change within the ICA framework.

Indian Cricketers Association election 2025 also saw Deepak Jain retain his role as Treasurer, while Jyoti Thatte and Santhosh Subramoniam were selected as member representatives. Adding to the diversity of voices, the ICA board nominated former India women’s captains Sudha Shah and Shubhangi Kulkarni as representatives to the BCCI Apex Council and the IPL Governing Council, respectively.

On the men’s side, V Chamundeswara Nath of the Hyderabad Cricket Association will represent male players on the BCCI Apex Council, ensuring balanced representation across genders.

In a statement, the ICA described the development as a “landmark moment,” noting that with two women now on the ICA board—including the first-ever female ICA President and a female IPL Governing Council nominee—the association reaffirms its commitment to inclusive and forward-thinking governance.

The appointment of Shantha Rangaswamy as ICA president stands as a testament to her lifelong contributions to women’s cricket in India, both as a player and as an administrator. Her leadership is expected to bring renewed focus to player welfare, gender equality, and greater integration between men’s and women’s cricket initiatives.

This election represents a new era for Indian cricket leadership, one that values diversity, inclusion, and the vital role women play in shaping the sport’s future at every level—from grassroots to governance.
