Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Yash Dhull Shines As Delhi Register Win Over Tamil Nadu In Last-Ball Thriller

Yash Dhull played a match-winning knock in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as Delhi triumphed over Tamil Nadu in a thrilling last-ball finish on Friday. Chasing Tamil Nadu’s competitive total of 198/7, Delhi needed 12 runs off the final over, and 2 runs off the last ball, which Himmat Singh clinched with a six, ensuring a six-wicket victory for Delhi. Dhull’s explosive 71 (46 balls, 4 fours, 4 sixes) played a pivotal role in keeping Delhi’s chase on track.

Yash Dhull’s innings was the backbone of Delhi’s chase, as he formed significant partnerships at critical junctures of the game.

His opening stand of 52 with Priyansh Arya (35 from 15 balls) set a solid foundation, followed by a crucial 58-run second-wicket partnership with captain Nitish Rana (34 from 26 balls). The most vital contribution, however, came in the form of a 61-run partnership with Ayush Badoni (41 from 23 balls), which kept the required run rate under control. Despite the fall of both Dhull and Badoni, Delhi remained in the hunt for victory.

With just 12 runs needed off the last over, the match seemed to be on a knife’s edge. After a couple of dot balls, Himmat Singh struck a six off the final delivery, securing a thrilling win for Delhi. This dramatic finish highlighted the intense competition and the growing excitement of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where Delhi’s batting depth shone through when it mattered most.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu posted a challenging total of 198/7, thanks to standout performances from Tushar Raheja (72 from 41 balls) and Amit Sathvik (54 from 40 balls). Their 115-run opening stand set the tone for a near-200 total, with Raheja providing the fireworks with seven fours and three sixes. However, the innings lost momentum in the middle overs, with Ishant Sharma dismissing B Sai Sudharsan (13 from 10 balls) early in the innings. The Delhi pacer Prince Yadav claimed three wickets in the middle overs, stifling Tamil Nadu’s progress and reducing the scoring rate.

Despite the lower-middle order faltering, Tamil Nadu were able to post a respectable total, leaving Delhi with a daunting task. However, Delhi’s response was clinical, with Yash Dhull taking charge in the middle overs and forming vital partnerships.

Anukul Roy’s Heroics in Jharkhand’s Win over Karnataka

In another thrilling contest, Anukul Roy guided Jharkhand to a narrow victory over Karnataka with a brilliant knock of 95* (58 balls, 9 fours, 5 sixes). Jharkhand chased down Karnataka’s target of 158/9 in a last-over thriller. Roy single-handedly carried the chase, supported by contributions from Ishan Kishan (15) and Virat Singh (12). With six needed from the final over and just two wickets in hand, Roy held his nerve to take Jharkhand past the target in 19.4 overs.

Earlier, Roy had excelled with the ball too, claiming two wickets in Karnataka’s innings, showcasing his all-round brilliance. His performance was the highlight of the match, as Karnataka failed to build on their initial momentum and were restricted to a modest total by Roy and his fellow bowlers.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy continues to deliver exciting moments, with thrilling finishes like Delhi’s last-ball win and Jharkhand’s chase, as teams fight for supremacy in this prestigious domestic T20 competition.
