Tommy Fleetwood Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship Lead Shared

Fleetwood and Rai Share the Lead After Round Two at Yas Links

Tommy Fleetwood Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship lead remains intact after the English golfer shot a six-under-par 66 on Friday to share the top spot with compatriot Aaron Rai. Playing at Yas Links, Fleetwood carded seven birdies and one bogey to sit at 14 under par after two rounds. Rai joined him with a brilliant 64, highlighted by a spectacular albatross when his second shot from 214 yards at the par-five second hole rolled into the cup.

Fleetwood and Rai Share the Lead

Fleetwood, a Ryder Cup star and one of England’s most consistent performers, started strongly with three straight birdies. Despite finding the rough on a few holes, he handled the challenging course conditions well. “I hit a lot of good shots,” Fleetwood said. “Yas Links offers plenty of testing shots. The scoring’s been low, so I’ll need to be pretty relentless and keep hitting good shots.”

Meanwhile, Aaron Rai surged up the leaderboard with a near-flawless performance, his albatross stealing the spotlight. His 64 tied him with Fleetwood at 14 under, setting up an all-English battle heading into the weekend.

McIlroy and Penge Chase the Leaders

Rory McIlroy, chasing a record-equalling seventh Race to Dubai title, shot another 68, moving to eight under par, six shots behind the leaders. McIlroy’s playing partner and closest rival, Marco Penge, edged ahead to nine under, maintaining the pressure in the DP World Tour Play-Offs.

Behind the top two, Andy Sullivan and Nicolai Hojgaard (both 67) and Richard Sterne (68) trail by two strokes, while Shane Lowry sits among a group a further shot back after a 69.

Fleetwood Reflects on His Game and Mindset

Fleetwood, 33, said he feels “good about my game” but knows golf’s fortunes can change quickly. “You’ve just got to stay patient and keep playing well. I’ve got six rounds left this season and still things I want to achieve,” he added, hoping to finish 2025 on a high.

Looking Ahead: Weekend Action at Yas Links

As the weekend approaches, Fleetwood and Rai will aim to hold off a strong field eager to close the gap. The tournament continues on Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Main Event, with live coverage on Saturday from 4 a.m. and the final round on Sunday from 3:30 a.m. The DP World Tour Play-Offs will then conclude with the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai on November 13.

Fleetwood’s combination of calm precision and competitive spirit has put him in prime position, while Rai’s confidence and momentum promise an exciting finish in Abu Dhabi.
