Waqar Younis Frustrated With Pakistan’s India T20 Loss

Waqar Younis expressed visible frustration in the commentary box after Pakistan’s 61-run defeat to India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The former Pakistan pacer struggled to hide his disappointment as he was reminded of India’s dominance, marking their 11th consecutive win over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup.

Waqar Younis Reacts to India’s 11th Consecutive Win Over Pakistan

Waqar Younis was visibly pained in the commentary box during India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 clash in Colombo when reminded of India’s 11th straight win against Pakistan. The former pacer stated, “Alright! Enough. Leave it there. We’ve had enough of that. India have been too good in the last 15-20 years.” His reaction highlighted both frustration and the tactical struggles facing Pakistan in high-profile T20 encounters.

Tactical Analysis: Pakistan’s Defeat in the First Innings

Younis explained that Pakistan’s loss was effectively sealed once India posted 175. He said, “Pakistan lost the game in the first innings. The ball was spinning, and Suryakumar Yadav was smart with his bowling changes.” He noted that Pakistan did not utilize their spin resources effectively compared to India, leaving them unable to challenge a large total.

India rode on opener Ishan Kishan’s explosive 77 off 40 balls and valuable middle-order contributions to set a daunting target. Pakistan’s reply faltered early, folding for 114 in just 18 overs, highlighting both India’s dominance and Pakistan’s batting weaknesses.

Bowling Decisions and Missed Opportunities

Waqar Younis pinpointed strategic errors by Pakistan, particularly regarding the timing of Usman Tariq’s introduction. “Tariq was superb, taking a wicket and conceding just 24 runs. But he was held back for too long. By the time he got the ball, Ishan Kishan had already done the damage. That is where the match was lost,” Younis explained.

He further highlighted the impact of India’s bowling attack, praising Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. “Hardik got the new ball up front, Bumrah was outstanding as always, attacking the stumps, swinging and seaming the ball. It was very difficult for Pakistan,” he said, stressing how India executed their plan flawlessly.

Leadership and Situational Awareness

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar also credited Suryakumar Yadav for his situational awareness. Gavaskar noted how Surya anchored the innings against Pakistan, preserving wickets while maintaining steady run accumulation, illustrating why India continues to dominate the fixture.

“He has led from the front. In the match against USA, when India were in trouble at 77 for 6, Surya bailed the team out, and here against Pakistan, he batted till the 19th over, scoring 32 runs. Yes, he didn’t bat at a high strike rate, but he ensured that the wickets didn’t fall,” Gavaskar explained.

Conclusion: India’s Dominance and Pakistan’s Challenges

Waqar Younis’ frustration reflects the broader issues facing Pakistan in T20 World Cups against India. Tactical missteps, slow introduction of key bowlers, and India’s smart batting and bowling strategies have resulted in repeated defeats. With 11 consecutive wins, India’s dominance shows no signs of relenting, leaving Pakistan to rethink their approach for future high-stakes encounters.
