Faruque Ahmed Hospitalized After Cardiac Arrest in Dhaka

Faruque Ahmed hospitalized — Former Bangladesh cricket captain and current Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) vice-president Faruque Ahmed was admitted to a Dhaka hospital on Sunday after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Health Update: Stable After Angiogram and Stent Insertion

According to BCB officials, Faruque experienced severe chest pain around noon and was rushed to the hospital, where an angiogram revealed a blockage in one of his arteries. A stent was successfully inserted later in the evening, and he is currently under observation in the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU).

A senior BCB official told Daily Sun: “He was feeling unwell since last night. This afternoon, he was taken to the hospital. After an angiogram, a blockage was found in his heart, and doctors inserted a ring in the evening. Now he is in the CCU.”

Career and Contributions to Bangladesh Cricket

Faruque Ahmed, 58, represented Bangladesh internationally from 1984 to 1999, captaining the national side during his playing career. Following retirement, he served twice as a national selector and remained one of the most respected figures in Bangladesh cricket administration.

Leadership Roles in BCB

Faruque briefly held the position of interim BCB president in August 2024, following the resignation of Nazmul Hassan. He served in the role for nine months before Aminul Islam Bulbul succeeded him as president. In October 2024, Faruque was elected as a BCB vice-president from the club category, working closely with Aminul’s administration.

Well-Wishers and Recovery

BCB officials, players, and cricket fans across the country have expressed concern and sent their best wishes for Faruque’s speedy recovery. Doctors have reported that his condition is currently stable, and he will remain under observation for the next few days.

Faruque Ahmed’s long-standing contributions — both on the field as a captain and off it as an administrator — continue to make him a pillar of Bangladesh cricket.
