Kohli Rohit BCCI Rule: Duo Told To Play Domestic Cricket

Kohli Rohit BCCI rule — The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly directed senior cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to participate in domestic tournaments if they wish to stay eligible for ODI selection.

BCCI’s New Directive

According to The Indian Express, the BCCI and team management told both players that playing domestic cricket — such as the Vijay Hazare Trophy — is essential to prove match fitness. “Since they have retired from two formats, they must play domestic cricket to stay match fit,” a board source said.

Rohit Confirms, Kohli Yet To Respond

Rohit has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) of his availability for the Vijay Hazare Trophy and may also feature in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament starting November 26. Kohli, however, is yet to confirm participation.

Match Fitness Key To ODI Future

The BCCI’s push comes amid growing speculation over both players’ ODI futures, with officials emphasizing the need for competitive rhythm through domestic play — especially ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Agarkar’s Reminder To Senior Players

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar earlier stated, “Whenever players are available, they should play domestic cricket to stay sharp.” Both Rohit and Kohli last played domestic one-day games after India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat before returning for the ODI series against Australia. The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 starts December 24.
