India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana described the team’s qualification for the Women’s World Cup 2025 semifinals as a “big relief” after bouncing back from three consecutive losses.
India secured the final semifinal spot, joining Australia, South Africa, and England, with a convincing 53-run victory over New Zealand (via the DLS method) in a rain-affected clash on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
“It’s definitely a big relief. The last three matches were really tough. We played some good cricket but couldn’t finish games. So this win feels amazing,” Mandhana said during the post-match presentation.
Mandhana and Pratika Rawal Power India with Record Partnership
The stylish left-hander Smriti Mandhana continued her stellar form, scoring 109 runs — her fifth century of the year — while young opener Pratika Rawal smashed her maiden World Cup century with a composed 122.
Together, the duo stitched a record 212-run opening partnership, guiding India to 340/3 in 49 overs — their highest-ever total in Women’s World Cup history, surpassing the 330 against Australia earlier in Visakhapatnam.
After a rain delay, the target for New Zealand was adjusted to 325 runs in 44 overs, but the White Ferns fell short, managing only 271/8.
Mandhana Credits Pratika and Team for the Comeback
Mandhana, who was named Player of the Match, humbly said that Pratika Rawal deserved equal credit for the victory.
“Pratika deserved this as much as I do. We’ve been asked often about our chemistry, and honestly, we just focus on doing the job for India. She anchors beautifully, which allows me to play my natural attacking game,” Mandhana explained.
The pair’s understanding and complementary styles have been a cornerstone of India’s batting success throughout the tournament.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur lauded her players for showing character when it mattered most.
“Credit goes to the entire team for fighting hard. We knew this was a must-win game, and everyone was pumped up. Smriti and Pratika gave us a perfect start,” Harmanpreet said.

“It’s been tough — we’re gutted with how things turned out. We just couldn’t convert starts into big scores. Credit to India; they were too good today,” said Devine after the loss.
